Disaster Strikes in Italy

Recent world events have made people realize that they really need to live life to the fullest. The citizens in central Italy had no idea what was coming the day before a deadly earthquake hit. The quake hit about 3.7 miles north of Norcia. The quake occurred on Sunday, October 29, 2016, and there have been about 200 aftershocks each aftershock about 20 minutes apart. 15,000 people were without electricity and at least 20 people were injured during the earthquake. From our Calgary office we offer electricity rates Alberta for the entire province. After the shock as people started to come out of their homes, first responding units came.

Most of the main roads are blocked with debris or the pavement on the roads have cracked, making it impossible to cross. Residents of central Italy have resorted to sleeping in their cars because their houses were destroyed and left in ruins. “These people don’t want to leave their area because they are really linked in. There’s a long tradition there, and they have some jobs, farmers and so on, so they decide to stay there,” Tommaso Della Longa of the Italian Red Cross told CNN.

When Padua student Sienna V. ’20 was asked about the situation she said “I think that it’s a shame that another earthquake has hit such a beautiful place.” Sienna was also asked about what she would do if she lived in Italy or if some of her family lived in Italy at the time. Sienna said “I would call them and make sure they are ok. I would also find a way to donate money and get the country back up and running.” Padua students get very affected when a world disaster happens and they will do anything to help those in need. Always remember to live life to the fullest.
