For almost ten years, How I Met Your Mother showed the journey of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) meeting his wife along with his friends Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) every Monday on CBS. Beloved fans had to finally accept that their favorite show of 9 seasons was finally coming to an end.

Like all finales, the How I Met Your Mother finale was greeted with some frustrated fans whom said that the series was ruined with the finale and that it was the worst series of all time.

Though the finale and season 9 outcome was foreshadowed in the beginning of the series, some approached the finale with disapproval. Why would Ted be telling his children about his mother unless she was not there to tell it herself?

Earlier in the series, Ted and Barney are in MacLaren’s during the pilot where Ted sees Robin for the first time. He says, “It’s like, ‘Okay, I’m ready! Where is she?”‘ The camera then cuts to show Robin as Bob Saget, the voice of older Ted, says, “And there she was.” With revelation that Tracy, his wife, was dead, Ted goes back to Robin in the finale. Many fans were outraged, expecting the happily ever after of Ted.

The shows creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, always planned that Ted and Robin would end up together, but so much had to happen before the two ended up with a happily ever after. Some fans were outraged thinking that the mother would be Ted’s happily ever after; but if you watched the show closely, that was never promised. The show is called How I Met Your Mother, not “How I Met My Wife.”

“My mom and I started watching it together,” said Cate N. The show was a great way to bond over characters and plots. “I love Neil Patrick Harris, so I watch it for him,” says Maame Agyemang.Though, some only come for the actors, they stay for the show. “My sister downloaded the first episode off of itunes and I fell in love. Ever since the first season I have watched How I Met Your Mother!” said Michelle K. Regardless of the hate and the way the ending was handled, the show will be remembered with love. It should be recognized for what it truly was: Legen- wait for it- dary.
