The Death of Joan Rivers

On September 4th, Joan Rivers died at the age of 81. Joan went in to get a routine throat surgery when she suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest during the procedure. After being rushed by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital, she died peacefully surrounded by her friends and family; this left many people asking how this could kill but there’s always risks. There has not been any criminal investigation under way, according to several New York law enforcement officials, but the state health department is looking into whether there is any malpractice going on with the doctors and their staff.

Joan Rivers was born on June 8th,1933, in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Barnard College, where she pursued her interest in performing. She appeared in many of the schools productions during her time there. After graduation, she settled for a practical career, but she soon came back to performing determine to succeed. She appeared in small plays, but ended up switching to comedy after realizing acting wasn’t her forte. Here she spend the next seven years in New York’s comedy clubs. Finally she got her big break when she was booked on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. From there she started her own show called That Show also know as the Joan Rivers Show. Before long she became a household name as she made her name more and more known, through creating a Grammy Award-nominated comedy album, co-writing A Girl Most Likely To, having small roles in movies, directed her first film, Rabbit Test, and being a part of Fashion Police.

Her memorial service took place at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan’s Upper East Side in her hometown New York. Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Sawyer, Geraldo Rivera, Donald Trump, and her Fashion Police co-stars Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne all went to pay their respects. Kathy Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rosie O’Donnell were there as well.  Howard Stern delivered the eulogy, and some of her closest friends gave tributes, including Deborah Norville. “All of us should be so blessed to be able to depart this world in exactly the style that we would hope that we would be able to.” Geraldo Rivera also said a few words, “It was a bundle of laughs in there, I have to say. It was irreverent, it was off color, it was just like Joan’s humor.” There were also stories about Joan’s generosity. More than 75 fans lined up before it started to pay their respects as well.
