Movie Review: Black or White

Black or White premiered in select theaters on January 30, 2015. The movie made $21 million dollars in the box offices. Black or White is rated PG-13 due to offensive language, drug and drinking use, and violence. The movie had mixed reviews from critics. Black or White cast includes Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer,and Jillian Estell, who plays the little girl Eloise Anderson. Octavia Spencer plays Eloise’s paternal grandmother, Rowena. Kevin Costner plays Eloise’s maternal grandfather, Elliot.

Elliot, a wealth citizen in Los Angeles, lost his wife in a car accident in the first scene. Elliot is left to take care of his granddaughter, Eloise. Eloise is an African-American girl whose mother died in childbirth and father is out of the picture due to his drug problem. Rowene, Eloise’s other grandmother, lives with her large family in East Los Angeles. Rowene decides after the loss of her other grandmother, Eloise should be brought under the care of her father, Rowene’s son, Reggie. Elliot blames Reggie for the death of his daughter and Elliot knows that Reggie has a serious drug problem. Rowene sues for custody from Elliot. In the end Eloise goes to live with Rowene for a couple weeks and then she will be living back with Elliot. Black or White has a good plot and even if the movie got mixed reviews, you should still go see it.
