Coachella: The Ultimate Festival
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is one of the largest music festivals in the world. This year, there are nearly 200 acts; some of the headliners include Drake, Jack White, Hozier, The Weeknd, FKA Twigs, Florence and the Machine, AC/DC, Odesza, Vance Joy, and many more. This year, Coachella is in mid-April in Indio, California, and holds hundreds of thousands of people. Similar to the Firefly Music Festival in Delaware, Coachella offers on-site camping, and many other activities during the festival. All ages are welcome to the event and although it is across the country, many Padua students wish to attend at some point. Grace Casey, a Padua freshman says, “I would love to go to Coachella; so many of my favorite artists are there and it looks like an amazing experience.”
Coachella originated in 1999, with acts like Beck, Morrissey, and Rage Against the Machine. Coachella has a large impact on America, as it has sparked a national interest in massive music festivals. The Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, and the Governors Ball in New York are also widely popular music festivals similar to Coachella. Since these concerts are in popular and central areas, the tickets are often sold out immediately. However, Coachella, and many of the other major festivals have a livestream on Youtube and premium television channels.
