The First State Votes
On Tuesday April 26, 2016 Delaware residents, along with those in Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, voted in the presidential primaries. The polls opened in the early morning and stayed open until 8, giving voters a wide window to get to their nearest voting place and put their vote in.
The Delaware votes resulted in a Republican win for Donald Trump and a Democratic victory for Hillary Clinton. For Trump the Delaware primaries was a win by a large margin. Trump received around 60% of the Republican vote, tripling Kasich who came in second with about 20% of the votes. Cruz was not far behind Kasich, with about 15% of the Delaware Republican votes. On the Democratic side the votes were tighter. Clinton received about 59% of votes. Trailing behind was Sanders with around 39% of the Democratic votes. As of today, May 6th, 2016 Donald Trump is the only standing Republican presidential runner. Ted Cruz dropped out of the race earlier this week followed by John Kasich who dropped out the day after. Cruz and Kasich had been trying to out run Trump, but when it was clear the two no longer stood a chance they withdrew from the running. Clinton and Sanders are still competing to represent the Democratic party. If you are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election, VOTE, VOTE , VOTE!!
