Their are many new and different learning opportunities here at Padua Academy. One of the wonderful opportunities at Padua is the Learning Chinese club. It’s a great way to meet new friends, learn about the Chinese culture, and some of their characters. This club is a great club to join.
Their are many reasons as to why someone might have joined the Chinese club. Learning a new language and the culture of a different country can be very exciting. “I joined the club because there are a few Chinese exchange students here at Padua, and my friends are hosting them. I thought it would be kind of cool to be able to speak a little bit of their language,” says Marissa Beadle, a junior. It is wonderful that the girls in this club can help the Chinese exchange students adjust to Padua life by speaking in their language. “I joined the Chinese club because I wanted to learn a new language,” says Jessica Clerval, also a junior. This club is a fun way to experience something different and still hang out with your friends.
Their are so many wonderful aspects of this club. The girls love to learn Chinese and always have an eager attitude towards learning the language. “My favorite part of the club is when we get a chance to learn everyday sayings and actually pronounce the words,” says Paige Lacek, a junior. This language is difficult to learn, but the girls and Ms. Pang find a way to make the class fun and interesting. “Being with my friends and learning with Ms. Pang is my favorite part,” says Jessica. The girls love the many enjoyable parts of the club.
Ms. Pang, the instructor of this club, is very knowledgeable about the Chinese language. She teaches the girls the language as well as the characters. “Ms. Pang seems so genuinely determined to getting us to learn as much Chinese as possible – I am looking forward to getting to know her better,” says Marissa. The class is full of learning as well as a lot of laughter. “I have Ms. Pang for math class and she is very enthusiastic about teaching, especially teaching Chinese!” says Paige. Ms. Pang enjoys teaching these students and they love learning from her.
Ms. Pang has started teaching the girls Chinese from scratch. Starting with simple phrases such as “How are you?” and “Thank you.” “We have only met once, and so far we have learned how to write and say a mini conversation,” says Marissa. Throughout the year they will learn how to say many words and phrases in Chinese. “We learn sayings in simplified Chinese and it is very interesting,” says Paige. This is only the beginning and they will know much more by the end of the school year.
