This weekend marked the first annual Ronald’s Rescue Wiffleball Tournament. The idea for the tournament came from two seniors who created the Ronald Rescue activity, Sam Scarpone and Monica Twardowski. The tournament consisted of teams of five, put together by students or teachers. A requirement for the teams was that they had to come up with team names for themselves. Some of the creative names were The Belgian Wiffles, Wiffle Rock You, and Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Yeah. The tournament was played in brackets, meaning that you had to win each game your team was scheduled for to move on. Each game had four innings and were played on several fields to keep the tournament moving. After several rounds the champions were announced. The 2013 winner of the Ronald’s Rescue wiffleball tournament was a team of juniors called Get a Wiff of This. They played in the championship game against a team of teachers, the Mad Batters. Between rounds the fans and players were able to enjoy food and refreshments such as pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and water ice. The food was delicious and the day was fun. Be sure to get your team together and start practicing for next year’s tournament!
