30 Day Meditation Challenge

Ever try meditation? Over the past couple of weeks, Padua’s APS sessions have been doing something different-teacher led Ted Talks! After the success of his Ted Talk, Mr. Shelton has decided to take his meditation presentation to the next level. He challenged Padua to the “30 Day Meditation Challenge.”  The challenge began on February 17th, and will continue for 30 days. The group meets in room 404 at 7:55 and participates in guided group meditation for 10 minutes each day. Mr. Shelton answered a few questions regarding the challenge.

What do you think the students are getting out of the 30 day challenge?

“I believe the students and faculty participating in the challenge are learning how to properly meditate while discovering the personalized benefits of a daily meditation practice.”

Do you think the 30 day challenge will lead the students to meditate on their own time?

“Yes. Some students have told me they already are. When they recognize that their minds are overloaded, they are choosing to observe their breath to regain balance.”

What are some general, positive aspects of meditation?

“Meditation helps a person to learn about themselves and to keep everything in perspective. This leads to decreased stress and anger while increasing self-confidence and compassion.”

Do you think the 30 day challenge has been successful so far?

“The 30 Day Challenge has been a wonderful success. There is a growing group of students and faculty who are personally experiencing the benefits of meditation. I believe this group will continue to benefit from their experience while inspiring others looking for similar benefits to try it out.”

Becky Romanies, a junior at Padua, tested her meditation abilities by participating in the 30 day Meditation Challenge, “I would have never thought to try meditation, I can’t even sit still in class for 5 minutes! My friend encouraged me to meditate with her, and I have already seen my days going better and better. Meditation relaxes me in the morning, and sets me up for a more promising day.”

If you’re interested in joining the challenge, it isn’t too late! Stop by room 404 in the morning and see if meditation will impact your day!
