As many of us know, it can be a hard transition from elementary school to a new high school. New building, new classes, new lockers, and new people to get to know. If you are the only person to attend this new school from your old one, it can be an even bigger challenge, but freshman Susan Everett is experiencing something completely different from her ‘’elementary school,” because Susan was home-schooled.
Susan was home-schooled from second to eighth grade and attended public school in Kindergarten and first grade. There were only about 11 people in her home schooled class at a time. Susan’s teacher was usually another student’s parent. Her last two years of home-schooling were more structured than her younger years and she preferred it that way. Susan says when they received homework it was all due on one day. This was an aspect of home-schooling she did not enjoy.
She explains that both of her brothers were home-schooled until high school, and she decided to follow in their footsteps. Susan would get annoyed when it came to the lack of structure in her class but says being able to wear her pajamas all day and having her mother as a teacher made up for it. At first Susan thought the transition from home-school to a regular high school would be difficult. ‘’I actually like Padua and it’s been really fun,’’ she says. Susan says the transition wasn’t that bad and she’s making a lot of great friends, and she wouldn’t go back to home-schooling if she had the choice
