Inspired by the British Museum’s “Stuff That Defines Us: A History of the World in 100 Objects,” Padua360 shares with readers the origins of certain objects and how they play a role in life today.
In 1973, a man named Martin Cooper changed people’s lives forever by inventing a device we know as the cell phone. The cell phone shows that human culture is lazy because they would rather send a text to someone rather than walking to deliver a message. The cell phone has changed human culture majorly, because at one time we were waiting days to receive handwritten letters from each other to communicate and now we are just a second away from receiving a message from someone. Back in the day some used the cell phone just for emergencies, but now it is used for everything from calling your parents to using it as a calculator for a math problem.
Now that phones are more advanced there is more to them than just calling and texting. The newer phones can do more things such as playing games, going on social networking sites, and even checking your email. This object is similar to the telegraph which was used to transmit and receive messages over long distances. Without cell phones life would be disconnected.
