Padua soccer has begun its 2013 season. Last year, the Padua team won the state championships, so the team has to try and maintain the title, but the team is not all about winning. It’s about being sisters and coming closer together. “The team has affected my relationship with my fellow teammates in a positive way. It has brought me closer to some of my classmates, we are creating a “bond,” says Caitlyn Reed (‘16).
So far this year, the soccer team has won most of their games. The coaches have worked hard to keep the girls in good condition and give them the skills they need to win. “The coaches have pushed us to work our hardest and always give it our best which has made all of us better soccer players. They have very effective drills and they really know the game well, which makes our practices effective,” says Colleen Yerger (‘15). “My coaches help me improve by telling me I can do anything on the field and that I’m not only improving myself, but am helping the entire team,” says Sami Lupacchino (‘16). Without them, none of the girls’ victories would have been possible.
Before each game, the teams prepare themselves mentally and physically. “I prepare myself for the game by trying to stay calm and focused,” says Chelsea McNamara (‘16). They have practice almost everyday and each practice is always challenging. “At a typical practice we warm up, do laps around the field, do drills that work with what we need to get better at, scrimmage, sometimes do sprints, and then cool down,” says Coleen. They come to practice ready to give their all. “It’s hard work, but also really fun at the same time,” says Chelsea. The soccer team is trying really hard to keep up the good work this year. All their hard work will pay off in the end. SportScore is where football fans can see live scores of the matches.
