At the beginning of every school year, Padua girls anticipate the upcoming events and activities that keep a school year filled with hard work and fun. Our Student Council executive officers are responsible for these activities and have always done a great job with these events. This year’s executive officers will prove to be no different, but because it is the beginning of the school year most students hardly know what to expect. Here is a look into the executive officers lives that will help you get to know our leading ladies and also help you figure out what to expect.
Our 2012-13 school president, Monica Twardowski is an alum of Holy Saviour St. John Fisher. In grade school she was involved in Student Council and loved to help out as much as possible. For a similar reason Monica ran for president. Monica is excited to help Padua in any way she can and is willing to work hard to make this year a good one. She says that being elected president is an opportunity she has always wanted and a dream come true. Monica is not only involved in Student Council at Padua, but also with Ronald’s Rescue and Student Ambassadors, as well as a member of the softball team. For this upcoming year Monica says, “I hope this year is the best year for the Class of 2013. I want this to be the most memorable year for all the students at Padua. We are planning some of the same events that Student Council has had in the past while creating new and different events that will bring the community together.”
Vice-president Emily Freebery went to grade school at St. Catherine of Siena. Emily chose to run for a Student Council executive position because of her experience with Student Council since freshmen year. She has enjoyed the event planning aspect of Student Council and also was able to see herself as a good role model for our underclassmen. Emily’s favorite color is purple and as for her other activities she says, “Basically all I ever do, other than Student Council is theater at Sallies as well as community theaters.” She talks about the upcoming school year with excitement, discussing the traditional fall festival and talent show, as well as a new event, the faculty versus student kickball game.
Sam Scarpone, secretary, attended Independence grade school and was an active member of Student Government there as well. Deciding to run for secretary was a decision Sam made based on her experience at Padua. She truly loves the school and felt that Student Council was her way to give back. Sam’s neat and organized tendencies combined with her love of Padua made her the perfect candidate for secretary. Sam’s favorite color is blue and she is also involved in Ronald’s Rescue and Student Ambassadors. Her plan is to make this school year as fun and memorable as possible, especially for seniors. Sam says, “We plan on keeping a lot of events and activities of past Student Councils, but we also have a lot of new ideas of our own.”
Our treasurer, Sarah Brennan, went to grade school at Saints Peter and Paul in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Sarah explains that she wanted to run for executive office because of her involvement in Padua’s student council since she was a freshman. Sarah says “As nerdy as it sounds I wanted to run for treasurer because I like math! I was executive treasurer at my grade school as well and I really enjoyed the experience.” Ever since she was a freshman, Sarah has been impressed by everything that the executive officers have done. Although the workload seemed large, Sarah is happy to be doing her part to give back to the school by planning an exciting upcoming year at Padua. Besides Student Council, Sarah is in the Marching Band at Sallies, on the Dance Team at Padua and runs track for Padua in the spring. As for this school year Sarah say, “The four of us have been writing up all kinds of proposals for events this year. We’re moving the Fall Festival to Homecoming Weekend this year and adding more to it like a student-faculty kickball game.” Sarah also pointed out that the Student Council’s theme for the school year is Padua Pixar. Each class has been assigned a movie and motto (you can see it on the third floor bulletin board) and she says that Student Council is having a lot of fun trying to incorporate it into our events this year like on the stairwell name cutouts.
As you can see, this school year is bound to be a good one. Hopefully you now know more about our executive officers and are even more excited for the entertaining events the girls will be planning for you. Here’s to a successful school 2012-13 school year!
