Radio City Christmas: Spectacular!
Pretty, poised, and precise; these are three words that describe the famous Rockettes that have been kicking and singing their way into audience’s hearts since 1933. As soon as you walked into Radio City Music Hall, New York, you were whisked away to a world of excitement filled with tourists, souvenirs, and overpriced popcorn. In addition to that, both the young and young-at-heart were given the perfect opportunity to meet and take a photo with one of the many Rockettes. After all of the hustle and bustle, guests made their way to their seats with the help of ushers who provided programs and special 3D glasses that would be utilized later in the show. When the lights dimmed and the curtain raised, the orchestra began to play a medley of classic holiday tunes. The wait was over, and the show had begun.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular went beyond my expectations. I’ve heard about how amazing the show and The Rockettes were, but you don’t truly realize it until you see the show in person. With every eye-high kick and routine, the Rockettes never failed to warm your heart. Even from afar, you could feel their energy and their passion for spreading Christmas spirit and performing in front of hundreds. A visit from Santa Claus made the experience ten times better with his jolly attitude and humor. Likewise, my favorite performance included Santa Claus himself, and the many other Santas that one sees at malls, sidewalks, and holiday parties. The routine was called “Here Comes Santa Claus”, and it was humorous explanation to the audience of how Santa manages to be everywhere at once. Additionally, another fan-favorite that I enjoyed was the “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” a routine that has been in the show since the very first performance. The Rockettes’ precise movements and ability to transition into multiple formations so quickly is truly spectacular; not to mention the hilarious ending that deserves not to be spoiled. I was lucky to attend the show twice during the Winter Break, and I must say, there was not a bored bone in my body, even during the second time around! In fact, because my family and I enjoyed it so much, we have started a new holiday tradition and cannot wait to go back next year!
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular was unforgettable. From the “Sleigh Ride” in the beginning to the “Living Nativity” in the end, the show left me in awe and wanting more! If you’re looking for a wonderful time with family or even just a holiday-pick-me-up, I would definitely recommend attending the show; you will not regret it!
