Spring Sports Tryout

Spring+Sports+Tryout

Now that the winter sports season is ending, the tryouts for the spring sports are just beginning. Padua Academy’s spring sports are softball, crew, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and track and field. The spring sports tryouts take place the week of March 1 to March 8. Padua has recently added lacrosse as a new spring sport. Due to the snow day on March 3, some of the tryouts were rescheduled to later in the week, but the snow will not stop the teams from getting ready for the upcoming season.

Padua freshman, Rebecca Romanies, tried out for softball. The tryout dates were March 1,4, and 5. The first tryout was an hour and a half and the last two consisted of two hours. Rebecca explained, “At the first tryout, we had a catch, we got ground balls, we  hit off the tee, and I caught the pitcher.” The tryouts were held in the Padua gym for all three tryout dates. The girls found out whether they made the team on March 5 by receiving a letter after their third tryout. Softball was the first tryout for Rebecca at Padua Academy, but she said said, ”I was not nervous because all the freshman were trying out at the same time because they had a separate tryout for freshman, which made it feel more comfortable”

Softball is only one of the seven spring sports offered at Padua. Many of the sports are starting their practices right after tryouts. The teams are preparing to train for the state championships so hopefully Padua can hang many more banners this year during the spring sports season.
