Obsession with Dunkin
Now more than ever teenagers all over the country are becoming obsessed with caffeine. The caffeine-obsessed evidence is even present at Padua, as many students walk into school every morning with Dunkin Donuts cups in hand. Is it safe to blame school work for this obsession? Students are constantly bombarded with homework and studying, forcing them to stay up into the late hours of the night, and sacrifice their sleeping time. Caffeine is a quick, easy source of energy before school.
If caffeine can be harmful to teenagers why are companies such as Dunkin Donuts allowing us to make these unhealthy decisions? Most likely, every student at Padua is aware of the free Dunkin Donuts medium or hot iced coffee the day after the Eagles win. The free coffee is further encouraging students to become addicted to caffeine and therefore giving Dunkin more business by buying more coffee. Grace Taggart (‘18) remarks that, “Iced Coffee is so good! It makes my taste buds tingle with goodness! I especially love how it is free after the Eagles win because I am too cheap to buy it otherwise.” There is nothing that can really be done about the obsession besides reminding students that sleep is very important.
