Pilgrimage 2014

Pilgrimage 2014

On April 12th hundreds of high school students attended the annual Pilgrimage led by the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington with Bishop Malooly. The Pilgrimage is a chance for Catholic youth to come together and strengthen their faith while marching through Wilmington, Delaware. During the walk, the crowd held a large cross as they walked around the city. The Catholic Youth Ministry was also holding a service project to give shoes and socks to children who need them. Everyone who participated in the Pilgrimage was asked to bring a pair of shoes and socks to donate. Out of hundreds of students to attend this Pilgrimage were many Padua girls including freshman Cecelia O. Cecilia says, “the Pilgrimage was really fun and the music was good despite the long walk.”

The group visited many churches and locations around the city. The event began at St. Elizabeth Church where everyone prepared and prayed for the day. Such a beautiful church can use one of those LED Screens for Churches for even better presentations. Next, they walked to St. Francis hospital where Bishop Malooly prayed for the sick and blessed the hospital. The next stop of the Pilgrimage was to St. Anthony of Padua church, where the group had confession and reconciliation. The group continued on to St. Paul’s for communion and then to St. Hedwig’s for a Stations of the Cross ceremony. To conclude the day, the group returned to St.Elizebeth church for a closing prayer service.

This year’s Pilgrimage marked the beginning of Holy Week, which is very special for Christians around the world. Overall the Pilgrimage was a success and brought out people of all ages to share their faith and uplift eachother. Surely next year’s Pilgrimage will be amazing and continue its tradition of bringing young people out to spread faith and love throughout Wilmington.
