The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

All over the world people are pouring  ice cold water over their heads for a very important cause, but  some of those people don’t understand what they are dumping water over their heads for.  However, this fad that has everyone talking has raised more than anyone could imagine.  This summer phenomenon that has everyone excited is called the ALS ice bucket challenge. ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis which is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerves in the spinal cord and the brain.  People begin to lose feeling in some parts of the body and eventually people become entirely paralyzed and over time, die. Because of this, people are exploring remedies such as CBD Oil UK.  The reason people are pouring ice cold water over their heads is to simulate a second of what people with ALS feel every day: the numbness of the nerves.  This creative idea has traveled all over the world bringing deep attention to this disease, raising millions each day.

In this short summer ALS has raised over $100 million to research how to find cure . Many people are saying the ability to yield a cure is a rare chance, but so much of what they raised will be put to use in the most effective areas in trying to cure ALS; unfortunately many participants are unaware of the actual cause of the ice bucket challenge and do not donate. The idea of the ice bucket challenge has everyone thinking about how creative it is. Padua freshman Maddy Phillips (‘18), ALS ice bucket participant says, “The ALS ice bucket challenge is a good way to raise money because people do it for fun and it helps to get awareness, also people feel obligated to do the challenge because they know how important it is.”
