Egyptian Rapper Takes the World by Storm

The world has recently witnessed a star. This star’s name is Mayam Mahmoud. Though only 18 years old, Mahmoud has taken over the rap music scene in a positive way. As CNN reporter Lauren Said-Moorhouse covered, Mahmoud’s “lyrics highlight the importance of girls’ education and denounce sexual harassment of women on the streets of Egypt.”

After auditioning on Arabs Got Talent, she continues to grow as an artist. She has inspired women across the world, not solely those in Egypt, to stand up for themselves. In March, Mahmoud’s “inspiring work for women’s rights” allowed her to receive recognition at the Index Freedom of Expression awards, continued Said-Moorhouse.

Mahmoud’s story has given hope to women to be themselves and enjoy every moment of that. As a politics and social science student, her unique take on life will certainly support her in many fields.

Mayam Mahmoud has changed the lives of many and owes it all to music. Although her videos are available online, it is difficult for many Americans to grasp her message because she raps in her native language. Luckily for her, music is the universal language. Anyone can watch her perform and see the true passion and thoughtfulness that she brings.
