The Oscars: A Preview

It’s that time of year again—the 2015 Oscars are this Sunday, February 22, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Formally called the 87th Academy Awards, the Oscars honor the best films of the past year. The event is very special to the actors, actresses, directors, and others nominated for the awards, as well as the people watching on TV at their homes. This year, Neil Patrick Harris will be the host.

One of the most anticipated awards is for “Best Picture.” The nominees are American Sniper, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash. The “Actor in a Leading Role” award is another one that can’t be missed, with nominees such as Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game). The nominees for “Actress in a Leading Role” include Julianne Moore (Still Alice) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild). There are also awards for categories like “Animated Feature Film,” “Costume Design,” “Directing,” “Music (Original Score),” and “Music (Original Song).” There will be something at the Oscars that everyone will enjoy.

The Oscars are also a special opportunity for the actors and actresses presenting the awards. Celebrities set to present include Ansel Elgort, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy, and Josh Hutcherson. Plus, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, and Anna Kendrick will perform, so don’t miss out. Be sure to tune in to ABC at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday!
