The DUFF Movie Review

On February 20, 2015, the DUFF movie was released in the U.S.A. The DUFF (which means Designated Ugly Fat Friend) follows Bianca Piper, played by Mae Whitman, a high school senior who is best friends with two popular girls, Jess Harris (Skyler Samuels) and Casey Cordero (Bianca A. Santos). To her classmates, it’s no secret that she is Jess and Casey’s DUFF, but Bianca is oblivious. One night, when she goes to Madison Morgan’s (the antagonist in the film) party, Wesley Rush (played by Robbie Amell) reveals to Bianca that she is Jess and Casey’s DUFF, not knowing she had no idea. Wes tries to make things better by saying that it doesn’t mean she’s exactly fat or ugly, but who is less popular than the others. Bianca is very upset when she realizes Wes is right. As the movie goes on, Wes and Bianca team together so Wes can get a better grade in science so he can stay on the football team and Bianca can change her social status.

When asked about what she thought of the DUFF, Madeleine Zink (‘18) says, “The movie is definitely a better version of Mean Girls. It combines comedy and romance. The actors are all great and I felt myself on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie. I would recommend it to anyone!” I would have to agree with Madeleine and say that The DUFF is an amazing movie and I highly recommend it. I won’t reveal the ending of the movie, but the DUFF is still in theaters, though not for long!
