Hotel Transylvania 2 Movie Review

Although the first Hotel Transylvania movie seemed downright funny and a perfect family comedy, the second just proves to be a cliche. In the sequel, Count Dracula and his spooky cohorts struggle to bring out the monster in his grandson, Dennis, while his daughter, Mavis, contemplates moving to sunny California.

The sequel begins back at the hotel. Count Dracula has finally given up on his only-monsters-allowed policy in the hotel and Mavis is now married with her own child, Dennis. Although the conflict from the last movie has been resolved, there are many new obstacles Dracula must face. Dennis is nearing his fifth birthday and has still yet to develop his vampire abilities. Mavis is beginning to realize the hotel may not be the perfect place to raise Dennis and begins considering to move to California. As Mavis jets off to California, she leaves Dennis in the care of Dracula. Dracula schemes to bring out his grandson’s fangs with his many monster friends.  Sony Pictures tries to include funny ‘poop jokes’, but usually end up with a quiet theater and bored viewers. With the fear of losing his family, the judgement of his strict father, and a seemingly human grandson, this sequel seems to be going pretty downhill.

Sony Pictures attempted to incorporate a family lesson, but basically ends up with a dull comedy and boring plot twists. I wouldn’t recommend paying money or taking time out of your day to see the movie, unless you are into stale jokes and an unoriginal plot.
