Breakthrough: Unity in a Powerful Community
Tragedy in this mysterious movie empowers a community and family of believers to put their faith on the line and help to turn around the outcome of a teenage boy’s life. “Breakthrough” is based on a true story that happened on January 15th, 2015 in Lake St. Louis.
“Breakthrough” was released on March 20th of 2019 and still impacts its audience everyday. The director is Roxann Dawson and the producer is DeVon Franklin. The director of this movie is also an actress who has played in many shows and movies. She has also written three inspirational novels. There are many executive producers such as Stephen Curry and Samuel Rodriguez. 20th Century Studios and Fox 2000 Pictures produced the movie. This impactful movie was rated as an 6.2/10 on IMDb.com. John Smith, his parents, and their community are the main characters in this movie.
In “Breakthrough,” fourteen year old John Smith (Marcel Ruiz) falls into a frozen lake in Missouri and is trapped there for more than fifteen minutes. First responders rescue him and transport him to the nearest hospital. He stops breathing and is pronounced dead for over an hour. Many doctors expect the worst for him while he continues to fight for his life. His adopted parents and their pastor pray for a miracle while staying close to him every step of the way. His mother Joyce Smith (Chrissy Metz) immediately used her faith and prayed for him.
In the movie, while John and his family were still in the hospital, their entire community gathered together outside of his hospital bed window and began to sing touching music of hope. Their community showed compassion to his family and stayed with them while they were overcoming this difficult situation. This scene from the movie is very important because it shows the unity of a community who comes together to help each other when there is an accident in the town. The community also prepared meals for John and his family while they were in the hospital for over sixteen days.
I recommend this movie to families around the world because it shows that communities and families should support each other when they are going through a tough time in their lives. Also, “Breakthrough” shows whether the situation is good or bad, your community and family will always be there for you.
