On Friday, September 28, 2012, the cross country traveled to Lehigh University to participate in the Paul Short Invitational. This was one of the biggest meets this year for the cross country team because not only were there high school teams from around the region, but colleges as well. For this meet each team had ten runners for their variety race, and then everyone else on the junior varsity race following the variety race. The girls that ran the varsity race included Angie Spadaccini, Emily Paolucci, Karlee Panella, Erin Spadaccini, Jill Ciritella, Mary-Katherine Lenoir, Regan Robertson, Katie Wecht, and Jacki D’Amico. The girls were very nervous going into the race because there were so many girls, and at the starting line there were three hundred and forty girls. Emily Paolucci came in twenty first out of the three hundred and forty girls. This was a big accomplishment for her.
The race went really well for the girls on varsity. Most of the girls did a personal best on the course, which gave them a great confidence boost. As for the junior varsity team, the girls also did well. Haley Lucey and Leanne Harkins were leading the junior varsity, and they did very well. The team is doing a great job so far, and if they kept competing like they are, they are in the running for a state title. The competition is strong this year, but so is the Padua Cross Country team.
This weekend October 12th and October 13th half the team competed at the Delaware Invitational at Lums Pond State Park, and the other half went Manhattan Invitational at Vancortlandt Park in Bronx, New York. The girls who ran at the Delaware Invitational did a great job considering most of the girls who ran varsity never ran a varsity race before. The girls who ran the junior varsity race also did a great job competing in the race. The girls who went to the Manhattan Invitational did a great job for never this this course before. The course was 2.5 miles long, so it was shorter than most of the courses the girls. The girls competed with teams from New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and many other states. The competition was very high, but the girls did their best as the junior varsity girls came in fifth, and the varsity came in sixth. These two invitational meets were very exciting, and all the girls did a great job.
