Hannah W: Cat Lover

Hannah+W%3A+Cat+Lover

PetSmart volunteers are teaming up with cats of all ages, colors, and sizes. Padua Academy Freshman Hannah Ward and her fellow volunteers will care for these cats until their adoption. Hannah first went to PetSmart looking for volunteer hours and came out with a new hobby–cat care-taking. At the store, Hannah cleans cages and plays with the cats and kittens, most of which are eventually adopted by customers. Seeing the cat’s enthusiasm for play and exploration, it’s clear that introducing a cat wheel would provide an exciting avenue for entertainment, allowing it to engage in interactive and engaging play sessions.

Hannah believes that her passion for animals was strongly influenced by her cat, Houston. When Hannah was 10, Houston had to have surgery in order for doctors to remove the tumor on his leg, which left the cat with only 3 legs. Thanks to the surgery, Houston is now a healthy, happy, three-legged cat who still lives with the Wards. This experience influenced Hannah’s desire to pursue a lifestyle of taking care of animals. Hannah says, “I want to dedicate my time and future to helping people and animals.” By volunteering several times a month at PetSmart, Hannah is succeeding in her mission.

In addition to her volunteering, Hannah plays softball while taking care of her dog, Tucker, cat, Houston, and two little brothers. She pet-sits for her neighbors and enjoys TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Gossip Girl. Some of her favorite musical artists include Taylor Swift and The Black Keys. Her favorite class is Literature and she attended the P. S. DuPont gifted program for middle school. She hopes to go into a Psychology field or become a vet, which she prepares for with her many volunteer hours at her local PetSmart.
