No matter where she has lived, Victoria A. has touched the lives of each person she has met.  Victoria A. is a sophomore at Padua this year. She participates in color guard and is known for her obsession of hairbows.  She has many friends and a sweet, kind, and caring disposition.  Many people know that Victoria used to live in Utah, but not everyone understands how different it is to live in the two states.

Victoria moved here as a fifth grader when her mom married a man from Delaware.  He could not move to Utah because of his job.  She stayed in Delaware until seventh grade and moved back to Utah for a year.  Again, she moved to Delaware after her eighth grade year had ended.  Victoria still tries to visit her hometown when she can.  She stated, “I try to go back twice a year, but sometimes I get busy with school and activities and things so I only go back once.  That’s usually for most or all of my summer.  Sometimes I’ll go out for Christmas break because that’s our other long break.”  She still likes to hang out with her friends, but she loves seeing her family.  “When you don’t see [your family] for a long time, it’s like ‘Hey! We have a lot to catch up on since I’m a year older and a foot taller.’”

With all the snow Delaware has had this year, Victoria sometimes feels like she is back in Utah.  She reflected, “Growing up, we never had snow days, if there was a lot of fresh snow, no one would come to school because we would all be skiing so they would just send everyone else home, the ones who went to school.”  Victoria explained the differences between Utah and Delaware by saying, “In Utah, they have these things called inversions where you can actually see the pollution because there’s mountains of both sides of Salt Lake City.  If you go up the mountain, you can see the layer of it.”

Victoria was really enthusiastic about attending Padua her freshman year.  She joined the cheerleading squad, even though she grew up dancing.  Once on the cheerleading squad, the girls must attend band camp to learn positions for field performances.  During band camp, she would watch color guard and think, “That looks so cool. I could never do that.”  When cheerleading did not work out, Victoria turned to color guard and found her true passion.  “I absolutely love it, so now whenever I see girls who are like ‘I don’t know what I want to do,’ I [suggest] band and Color guard!”  Victoria still misses her family and Utah, but she loves being in Delaware.
