From A Pretend Classroom to A Real One

Ms. Coburn is one of the newest additions to the Padua Academy staff this year. She teaches Freshmen World Civilization and Senior United States History and Government. Ms. Coburn has her bachelor’s degree in History and a certificate for Social Studies education for grades seven to twelve. Ms. Coburn loves to teach teenagers.  “I love seeing the girls focused and dedicated to learning new things and they all have a really good moral background as well,” she said.

She has always had an interest in school since she was very young. She would play school with her friends, pretending she was just like her teachers that taught her. As a child, she also read all the time; that was her go-to thing. Ms. Coburn attended Padua, so she knows how challenging the school is and how much it takes to keep up grades. Ms. Coburn did very well in school and surprisingly enjoyed it. She said she was very studious, worked every day after school, but whenever she wasn’t doing schoolwork or working she was out and about with friends any chance she could get.  Her transition to Padua has been very easy because “Since I went here I know it really well and I have no trouble finding my way around but I used to teach at a public school and it’s very different from a private school so I like it better here, but overall it’s been a very good transition.”

In her free time she still likes to read, watch movies, take her dogs on walks, and have dinner with her fiance. Her favorite color is purple, which happens to be the color for her wedding. Other than reading or going to dinner, she loves to workout and practice her Italian, since her fiance’s parents are from Italy and only speak Italian. In high school, some of Ms. Coburns strengths were Italian; however, her least strongest class was chemistry. She said her most memorable year in high school was “Junior year because that’s when you had the most fun, even though Senior year was very fun as well, I knew I was going to miss my friends, so I would say Junior because that’s when you did a lot of stuff with friends.”

Ms. Coburn is a very friendly and open person with different people and situations that she comes across, and  loyalty and commitment towards someone means everything to her. Ms. Coburn’s outlook on school is very straight forward, “Do not stress yourself out too much at the small things, but look at the big picture because you’ll never get these memories back.” Ms. Coburn’s greatest advice is “Make the best out of these four years and look back on it and think of all the amazing memories and friendships you made because if you worry too much about school you’re going to say wow what did I do, I forget, and you don’t want that to happen, so always try to make everything a memory.” She wishes everyone good luck and to to all seniors success this year at Padua!
