How Early Is Too Early For Christmas Music?

As of mid-November, I can say that I have already heard my share of Christmas music. Don’t get me wrong, everybody loves a good Jingle Bell Rock, but weeks before Thanksgiving is pushing it. The excitement of Black Friday deals and Christmas trees seem to be coming earlier and earlier every year. Thanksgiving is now just a blip on the big map of the Christmas season. We have so much to be thankful for and I feel like the early holiday music is making us forget about the family time that Thanksgiving is all about. People, including myself, are often guilty of leaving Thanksgiving dinner early to rush off to get the best deals for their holiday shopping. Stores and radio stations play a part in this because of how early they play their Christmas music. After hearing the holiday tunes, people want to get out start their shopping. Franky Sedlacek (‘18) says, “I love the excitement of the holiday season and enjoy hearing Christmas songs any time of the year!” Personally, I think that the appropriate time to start playing these songs is after Thanksgiving! Just give it a few weeks and the Christmas season will be in full swing and you can listen to as much Christmas music as your heart desires!
