Whether it may be on celebrities like Kim Kardashian or Selena Gomez, or on ordinary day to day teenagers, the color black has recently taken over the fashion choices of women everywhere. Yes, wearing an all black outfit from head to toe does have the impact of making one feel chic, powerful, and most of all, confident. This fashion trend was once just viewed as “goth” and nothing else in the past, but has now made a turnaround, having a new, more popular and positive reputation.

While wearing all black is inevitably a trend amongst celebrities, the age group of young adults and teenagers are definitely not afraid to express how they are more in favor of it than anyone else. “I’ve always loved wearing black because to me it just makes me feel like I can pretty much do anything,” says Padua senior Dani Myrie. “I feel as though the color black is intimidating yet sophisticated.”

On her blogspot “Good Life for Less,” mother and fashion seeker Jill G0tt-Gleason also shares her opinion on the trend, saying, “All black looks are the way to go when you want to look sophisticated or mysterious.”

At least every day now, especially during the winter season, there are almost always tweets from people saying something along the lines of “I’m wearing all black today to match my soul.” It’s specifically common for teenagers to tweet about wearing all black to “mourn” something; this could be the death of their love lives when they don’t have a significant other on a day like Valentine’s Day, the death of their motivation when they are blatantly unmotivated to do something they have to do (typically homework or studying), or the death of their grades after taking a test they feel they did poorly on. Wearing all black can also relay back to a positive or motivational “death” though, such a someone wearing all black to the gym as a “funeral for their fat.”

“There are people who actually loved the trend before it became so popular,” said Dani. “This trend can just be a phase for others though. I think this trend will eventually go out of style (sadly), but if wearing all black is your style then you should continue it by all means.”
The timing of when this trend will come to an end is unpredictable, but right now it is definitely more popular than not.
