Say Good-bye to Snow Days

Who doesn’t love a good snow day? There are so many great ways to spend it: out in the snow, sipping hot chocolate, hanging out with friends, or watching a season of a favorite TV show on Netflix. This perfect day, however, is changing due to the new Padua Cyber Day policy. On days when school is cancelled due to inclement weather, students will receive assignments via email from their teachers. January 27th was Padua’s first chance to try out this new system. The response was varying; some students and teachers loved it, while others would rather have had a traditional school day.

Katie Giardinelli, a freshman, says she prefers Cyber Days. She likes being able to sleep in and relax in her pajamas while doing homework. She did, however, find that she had much more homework than she would have on a typical school day. Katie thinks Cyber Days are tricky though. “Personally,” she says, “I have a harder time focusing and getting things done at home”.

Personally, I felt that the Cyber Day had its pros and its cons. I loved being able to sleep in that morning, and having all day to complete my work. However, I felt that I received more work than I would have on a typical snow day. This is understandable, due to the fact that we were missing a full, 7-hour day of school work, but it did take away from my day off. I would definitely rather have a Cyber Day than a school day, but I do miss the activities and less responsibilities I had on the good old Snow Days.
