Little Sisters with their Senior at the ceremony

Little sisters are honoring their Big Sisters at Padua through the Alyssa Godfrey Memorial Scholarship. Alyssa was a Padua student who excelled in her classes, enjoyed establishing friendships, and actively participated in
the traditions of Padua Academy. Her family hoped that by creating this scholarship fund, they will help other Padua sisters realize their potential and also help to grieve Alyssa’s death in a constructive way.

The little sisters can nominate their senior by writing an essay about how they have made a positive impact on their lives. Sarah Manno, a freshman, says she wants to nominate her big sister to show her just how much her friendship and all the little things she does means to her. To be nominated, their little sisters have to see their big sis as academically strong, have leadership capability, have high moral standards, have a strong sense of commitment, and be accepted to a 4-year college or university. The scholarship fund gives the winner $1,000 towards their college tuition. Little sisters had two weeks to submit their essay of 1,000 words or less to Mr. Kifer.

Tuesday, May 12, all the seniors and freshman gathered in the cafe for a special ceremony. This ceremony, called the legacy ceremony, looked back on the year with a slideshow. Seniors addressed the freshman with speeches to inspire them over the next four years. The freshman expressed their gratitude toward the seniors for guiding and helping them through their first years at Padua with speeches and Panda Power Packs, goodie bags filled with candy and other snacks to help the seniors get through finals week. The ceremony highlighted the sisterhood and friendship between the two grades and the year they had together.
